A NATO training center for counterintelligence and espionage is to be opened in Poland to deal with infiltration by Russian intelligence of the EU states, according to Ukraine Today citing radio Poland.
So far, the project includes Croatia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania,
Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Hungary and Italy, with Poland and Slovakia
leading the initiative. More EU member states may join the project
later, Ukraine Today reports.
Several dozen officers are expected to start training by the year’s end.
Russian spies have significantly stepped up their activities in
Europe in the past 18 months, according to European intelligence
agencies.
Moscow aims at sowing discord among the European states and win over public opinion.
